West of Brooklyn’s mission is to bring to Seattle’s metropolitan community our passion for edgy, thought-provoking and dynamic theatre that moves audiences to their feet.
West of Brooklyn was founded in November of 2005 by a group of actors, directors and writers, all relatively new arrivals in Seattle. We hail mostly from New York City, one from Texas and a couple from the mean streets of Spokane. Despite our diverse backgrounds we share a vision of creating work that we are passionate about; both new and existing work that not only entertains, but explores in fresh and innovative ways the human experience. Most importantly we strive to produce work that touches the audience and that contributes to the quality of theatre for which Seattle is known.
Seattle boasts some of the top theatres in the country, but there is also a wonderful fringe theatre scene here that is hard to ignore. We want to do our part to not only promote our own shows, but to help promote other small companies in Seattle. To that end, we are currently developing a cooperative program/magazine, available to all small theatre companies, called 'UNFRINGED.' Not unlike ‘PlayBill’ in NYC, our program will serve to bring fringe theatres together in order to support, promote and celebrate each contribution to Seattle’s theatre community.
